IR Control from your Newton
So, for Christmas, I picked up a Sony CX255 200 CD Changer. It's a CD player which holds 200 CDs that can easily be accessed. This particular model allows you to enter 13 chars of CD title, so you don't have to memorize the #s.
Anyway... during the process of putting the CDs into the changer, I made up a list of all of my CDs. I ended up putting a list of my CDs into my Newton, and got excited about the idea of being able to TAP on a CD name and have my Newton 2000 tell my CD player to play that disc. So, I ended up searching the net for docs on how to do IR commands from my Newton.
How to do the programming is pretty well documented, however, the IR Codes that you need for your specific device (in my case, the Sony 255) are not so easily come upon. If you're lucky, they're documented at ftp://nada.kth.se (see below), but otherwise, you have to try and figure them out yourselves. So, I put together this page so others would have an easier time about it, and hopefully get people to write some interesting/creative IR applications for the Newton.
Fortunately for me, Sanjay of Scrawl, LLC contacted me and provided me with some source he had written to enter Disc Names into his CX-250! In addition, he provided me with the IR Codes I needed. CD Changer 1.0 is the end result of that little project.
