I almost always choose a type of oil to rub onto my candle. The oil varies from what the need is at the present time. For example, I might use an oil with roses in it if I was doing a love spell (not putting a spell on someone else I should note). I never use oil that is animal fat. You will find that essential oils can be very expensive and in all reality you can make your own if you like doing that sort of thing and enjoy getting your hands into the magick! Once you have rubbed the candle with your chosen oil, then you can tell the candle your intent or need. It is done and your candle is charged! Yep..it can be that easy! Remember to thank the Goddess for her gifts as well.
Here is a more formal method for charging
for those of you who need order in your lives.
1. Clear your mind and rub an oil onto
your candle.
2. Breathe deeply and let the stresses
go away from your body, easing your mind and spirit of all tension.
3. Imagine a bright white light coming
from above you and filling you.
4. Hold your candle in both hands and
imagine that some of the light is entering the candle.
5. Continue to breathe deeply and relax.
6. It is done and your candle is charged
and ready to go!
Sometimes I like to get
more "creative" with the charging and include some nice words while doing
the cleansing and consecrating of my candle. For example: If my candle
was being charged because I had a need for money and was doing a monetary
gain spell, I might say something like this:
" Light within and light without, I see money all about. I charge thee
to my intent and thank thee Goddess for thy gift."
You may also inscribe your
needs into the side of your candle and we will get into that later on in
the spells sections.
Just remember it is your candle, your
spell/ritual and as long as you do what you feel to be right in your heart
then you are doing the right thing. So many of us get trapped into the
"following" position. We can only do a love spell if we have a pink candle
and rose water......balonely.....if all you had was a little rain drops
and rose petal and your intent was the same then you will be fine and your
spell will be heard (even if you only had a lime green candle that was
shapped like a frog!) Please please if you learn nothing from these pages
but this one thing then I will have accomplished my purpose here.........
Candles and any other
item you use in a spell or ritual are no more than a TOOL. YOU
bring the magick, intent and power.
Of course it is nice to have
all the "right" equipment...but you don't have to have it! You are what
really counts when it all boils down to the bottom line.
