DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
Design Technology is another term for children's engineering. We are
given real world problems to solve. Many of the problems come from the stories
we read. We use the problem solving loop to figure out the solution. First
we are given a design brief with a challenge
and put into cooperative groups to work on a solution. We use our technology
log to gather our ideas and draw a blueprint of our solution. Then we
begin construction using safe recyclable materials. The next step is to
present our product to others and evaluate if it met the challenge.
Because of all of the hard work of teachers and students we were asked
by the State Department of Education to present a Design Technology display
at the State Fair in Richmond, Virginia. We were the only elementary school
in the entire state to be recognized. In August, we will receive a special
recognition as the receipent of the 1996 Virginia Elementary School Technology
Education Award. We will also represent Virginia at the International Technology
Education Award "Programs of Excellance" presentation in Ft. Worth,
Texas in March of 1998.
